Athena is a three way floorstanding speaker with very small distortions.
Athena is a bass-reflex cabinet loudspeaker with drivers of Audaphon and Wavecor.
The kit is delivered with the following drivers: - a Audaphon AMT 1i air motion transformer (ribbon-tweeter) - a Wavecor WF182CU13 mids driver - a Wavecor WF223BD01 woofer
The loudspeaker has been developed by David Hahn.
The crossover consists of: - a 2nd order high-pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) for the tweeter. - a band pass consisting of a 2nd order high pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) and a 3rd order low-pass filter (18 dB per octave slope) for the mids-woofer. - a 2nd order low-pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) for the woofer.
The frequency response of this speaker is perfectly linear.
The decay spectrum as shown in the waterfall diagram is exemplary, free of any disturbing resonance.
At low volume, i.e. 85 dB at 1 m, the nonlinear distortions are below 0,6% above 300 Hz and doesn't exceed 0,6% at 95 dB at 1 m between 300 and 15000 Hz.
Here we let the designer Daniel Hahn have his say: "Dynamic. This is one of the main attributes I would give to the speaker. Although many speakers have dynamic bass, the Athena manages to maintain this characteristic over the entire frequency spectrum thanks to the large cone surface of the AMT and the midrange driver. Any kind of soft or very loud music is fun on this speaker. I particularly like how Athena lets acoustic guitar strings work, on "Some Must Dream (Live)" by Nils Lofgren: the two guitars sit separately from each other, each about a quarter of the distance between the speakers and completely separate from the box. Voices also work very well. Katie Melua, Sara K. and Melody Gardot sound like they're sitting between the speakers, as clear and identifiable as the individual instruments. One album I used for testing is Alon Mor's "Long Awaited Journey". His music is unique and mixes several styles of music, from classical to dupstep, from slow and soft to fast and loud. The Athena manages to inspire in all aspects of these songs with clarity and dynamics. I can only recommend listening to this album.” Editors note: I can confirm this description from my own experience: The Athena manages to combine high precision in playback with impressive dynamics.
The classic 3-way floorstanding speaker is alive! The Athena scores in all sound disciplines and also manages to "catch” the listener.

The high-end kit is delivered with baked varnish air core coils on important parts of the crossover for minimizing microphonic effects. - The current flow through the coil creates a magnetic field which sets the reel of wire in motion. This motion induces a voltage in the coil which adds itself to the signal. The stiffer the reel of wire is, the less the signal will be altered. The capacitors for the Audaphon AMT 1i are of type polypropylen (MKP) ClarityCap CSA 630 V.
