Holger Barske and Thomas Schmidt of journal Klang+Ton present in time for the coming gardening season, the new model of its HiFi-PA loudspeaker. Ephedra 2016 is a 2 way floorstanding speaker with professional drivers from Monacor and Celestion. The kit is delivered with the woofer Monacor SP-12/200PA and the Celestion CDX1-1747 mounted on a horn Monacor MRH-200.

The crossover consists of a second order high-pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) for the tweeter with an Silvercore Autoformer to reduce the volume to that of the woofer. Te woofer is connected a second order low-pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) .

The frequency response is flat on 15 degree angle (horizontal deviation). The decay spectrum shows nearly no resonances. At medium volume, i.e. 95 dB at 1 m, the nonlinear distortions are lower than 1% above 200 Hz and doesn't exceed 2% below 5 kHz at 105 dB at 1 m .

Kit with high-end crossover

The high-end kit comes with Clarity Cap capacitors of high quality. The capacitors for the tweeter are Clarity Cap ESA 630V. The inductances are baked varnish air core coils for minimizing microphonic effects. - The current flow through the coil creates a magnetic field which sets the reel of wire in motion. This motion induces a voltage in the coil which adds itself to the signal. The stiffer the reel of wire is, the less the signal will be altered.

Impedance correction

If you want to use a valve amplifier with this speaker an impedance correction should be employed. In this case the component quality is less important; therefore, we offer only one kit (upon request higher quality components are available).
