Hora with Swans drivers as in Hobby HiFi 6/07

Technical data:

The main goal behind this design is the phase corrected radiation of the drivers. To achieve this the tweeter is mounted behind the vertical axis. The best way to do this is by placing the tweeter on top of the cabinet. The Swans TN-28 with its drop shaped enclosure is ideally suited for it.

Using this tweeter and a Swans M5 N bass driver Bernd Timmermanns designed the Hora.

Unfortunately, the price EUR 50.00 quoted by Hobby HiFi is wrong. The correct price according to the distributor Expolinear is EUR 98.00 per unit.

The cabinet comprises a Helmholtz absorber to eliminate unwanted resonance.

Excerpt of the review by Hobby HiFi 6/2007:
..."The Hora reproduces a clear and natural sound we seldom experienced before. The optimal fusion of tweeter and bass driver is reflected in particular by an outstanding homogeneity of vocals. It's so easy to immerse into music, forgetting that there are loudspeakers. The three dimensional image is not spectacular, but displayed with such consummate ease that the listener won't even see the physical speaker anymore. Instead, all vocals and instruments are easy to pinpoint. These slim speaker have, obviously, limitations regarding the output level. But within these limitations the considerably low and detailed bass surprises. Also, the fundamental tone is exceptionally good, certainly due to the bass pull circuit." ...

- 15 μF MKT
- 10 μF MKT
- 220 μF ELCO, etched, 63V
- 5.6 μF MKP foil, 600V

Hora with ultra crossover

The high end crossover consists of coils in series to the bass driver that have a lower impedance, and capacitors with higher dielectric strength.

Should you require less distortion and higher transparency then we recommend a better quality components:
- MKP capacitors instead of ELCO, non etched
- no distortion prone core coils in the signal path, but an almost 2 kg wire coil
- and finally Damping 10 for the cabinet.

Impedance correction

When using a valve amp an impedance correction is needed. The correction is the same for the standard and high end version since the component quality hardly influences the sound quality. The impedance correction consists of:
- 0.47 mH air core coil / 0.7 mm
- 33 μF ELCO non etched
- 6.8 Ohm resistor, 20 Watt
