Loire floorstanding consists of Loire Top the upper part of the floorstanding Loire and Loire sub. The Loire Top is a compact speaker of outstanding quality. With the additional subwoofer-set the Loire Top becomes an even more excellent standing speaker.Goal of that construction was that the bass part should reproduce sound as precisely as the satellite box. Therefore Dennis Frank and Daniel Gattig constructed the housing to reduce the internal resonances to a minimum: The woofers operate opposing each other in a push-pull-design, resulting in an almost perfect impulse compensation. German DIY-magazine Klang+Ton found the Loire Top a so excellent compact speaker that in issue 1/2014 they reviewed it individually. The Loire Top features a 30mm (1 3/16") Wavecor TW030WA10 silk dome tweeter and a 18cm (7") Wavecor WF182BD12 woofer with fiberglass cone.
The box is constructed as a closed box, which provides a very clean, dry bass. Satellite and subwoofer are built with only six boards, so they are very easy to assemble.
The crossover consists of a 3rd order high-pass filter (18 dB per octave slope) to control the silk dome tweeter and 2nd order low-pass filter for the control of the mid-woofer. Parallel to tweeter and mid-woofer still absorption circuits are arranged which correct the frequency characteristics without worsening the impulse accuracy.
The frequency response is quite flat, the non-linear distortions are absolutely low. This can be found in top-class speakers. Compared to the original signal from your amplifier nothing is added, nothing is left away. The decay spectrum shows a small resonance at 500 Hz; apart from that it is without any fault.
... "Based on a maybe not ultra deep, but extremely clean bass that sets its accents loudly and clearly through the closed pulse-compensated design, the Loire floorstanding speaker presents an extremely well-balanced midrange. You can hear how much the midrange driver benefits from being discharged from the low frequencies. If you listen closely, you will notice the fiberglass membrane´s amazing ability to differentiate. At the upper edge of the frequency spectrum, the tweeter sets its delicate accents. Dynamically and dimensionally, the Loire gives an excellent reproduction of a live stage."
"The subwoofer extension to the Loire is not exactly cheap, but lifts the box on a completely new sonic level."
Our high-end version employs two ClarityCaps of type ESA in the signal path to the tweeter, in the path to the woofer one Mundorf copper foil coil. Otherwise, baked varnish air coils are used. As capacitor high-quality clarity Cap foil capacitors of type PWA are used in addition to the ESA capacitors.
Our high-end version employs ClarityCaps of type PSA in the signal path to the mid-woofer beside a Mundorf MResist Supreme resistor.
If you want to use a valve amplifier with this speaker an impedance correction should be employed. In this case the component quality is less important; therefore, we offer only one kit (upon request higher quality components are available).
If you prefer to mount the crossover components on a 240 x 165 mm universal PCB instead on wood: Universal PCB RA240, order no.. str-RA240, price per unit: EUR 8,60 excl. VAT: € 7.23 / $ 7.88 We recommend two boards per kit (four boards for a speaker pair)
