The Cherlen 12/18 dB is a high-end 2 way bassreflex floorstanding speaker with Air Motion Transformer and 6 dB filter. The kit is delivered with the outstanding Audaphon AMT 1i and the excellent Morel TSCM 634. Cherlen has been developed by Dennis Frank and Daniel Gattig.

The filter is with second and third order filter. If you prefer a separation with first order filter we recommend Cherlen with 6 dB crossover..

The crossover consists of a 3rd order high-pass filter (18 dB per octave slope) for the tweeter. A parallel RCL drain circuit is smoothing the frequency response of the tweeter at about 6 kHz. The woofer is connected to a 2nd order low-pass filter. A parallel RCL drain circuit is smoothing the frequency response of the woofer at about 800 Hz

The frequency response of this speaker is very linear. The decay spectrum is nearly perfect. At low volume, i.e. 85 dB at 1 m, the nonlinear distortions are lower than 0,2% above 600 Hz and rises not above 0,6% at 95 dB at 1 m .

Kit with high-end crossover

The high-end kit comes with ClarityCap capacitors of type ESA and Audaphon MKP CAP Superior. The inductances are baked varnished coils and a Mundorf copper foil coil for minimizing microphonic effects. - The current flow through the coil creates a magnetic field which sets the reel of wire in motion. This motion induces a voltage in the coil which adds itself to the signal. The stiffer the reel of wire is, the less the signal will be altered.

Impedance correction

If you want to use a valve amplifier with this speaker an impedance correction should be employed. In this case the component quality is less important; therefore, we offer only one kit (upon request higher quality components are available).
