Copernicus Top passiv is a three way compact speaker.
Copernicus exists in five variants:
Copernicus Top passiv is a closed-cabinet loudspeaker with drivers of Mundorf and Wavecor.
The kit is delivered with the following drivers: - a Mundorf AMTU160W1.1-R air motion transformer (ribbon-tweeter) - two Wavecor WF182CU13 mids drivers - a Wavecor WF259PA01 woofer
The loudspeaker has been developed by Dennis Frank and Daniel Gattig.
The crossover consists of: - a 2nd order high-pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) for the tweeter. - a band pass consisting of a 2nd order high pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) and a 3rd order low-pass filter (18 dB per octave slope) for the mids-woofer. - a 2nd order low-pass filter (12 dB per octave slope) for the woofer.
The frequency response of this speaker is perfectly linear.
The decay spectrum as shown in the waterfall diagram is exemplary, free of any disturbing resonance.
At low volume, i.e. 85 dB at 1 m, the nonlinear distortions are below 0,5% above 500 Hz and doesn't exceed 0,6% at 95 dB at 1 m between 300 and 15000 Hz.
"The Copernicus´ performance with the free-field setting directly in front of the wall is impressing, but in the long run it is clearly too powerful. So I first turned the bass department down by about 6 decibels - that´s better. The impression of infinitely deep and dynamic bass is retained, but it doesn't immediately jump in the listener's face (or stomach). This impression extends over the entire audible frequency range: you can clearly hear that there is significantly more membrane area in every position than with your standard loudspeakers. And because the whole thing is so beautifully linear and without any distortion, you can always get really loud without stressing your ears - very good! When it comes to home cinema, things are going just as well... I caught myself stepping on the gas on the subs for the correct doomsday soundtrack à la "Independance Day" or "2012" - but then that's not entirely possible without worrying about the building´s structural integrity…. "
" Perfectly tuned wall box with an integrated subwoofer solution that leaves no desires whatsoever. "
"High-end tip"
the crossover components (right), to be mounted on a small wooden board.
Kit without cabinet, price per speaker EUR 1640,00 excl. VAT: € 1378.15 / $ 1502.18
Price for a pair of custom speakers of any color EUR 5861,00 excl. VAT: € 4925.21 / $ 5368.48
The high-end kit is delivered with baked varnish air core coils on important parts of the crossover for minimizing microphonic effects. - The current flow through the coil creates a magnetic field which sets the reel of wire in motion. This motion induces a voltage in the coil which adds itself to the signal. The stiffer the reel of wire is, the less the signal will be altered. The capacitors for the Mundorf AMTU160W1.1-R are of type polypropylen (MKP) Clarity Cap CSA.
Kit with high-end-crossover without cabinet, price per speaker EUR 1783,00 excl. VAT: € 1498.32 / $ 1633.17
If you want to use a valve amplifier with this speaker an impedance correction should be employed. In this case the component quality is less important; therefore, we offer only one kit (upon request higher quality components are available).
Price per impedance correction for one speaker, to be mounted on a small wooden board. EUR 9,50 excl. VAT: € 7.98 / $ 8.70
If you prefer to mount the crossover components on a universal PCB instead on wood PCB 220x155 mm, order no. I-8805002, price per unit: EUR 11,80 excl. VAT: € 9.92 / $ 10.81 We recommend one board per kit (2 boards per speaker pair)
